Heat Stress 10:00am - 11:30am
Many people are exposed to heat on the job, outdoors, or in indoor environments. Operations involving high air temperatures, radiant heat sources, high humidity, direct physical contact with hot objects, or strenuous physical activities have a high potential for causing heat-related illness.
This course will focus on the basics of heat, your body’s metabolism and how it plays a role in heat related illness, how humidity plays a role in heat exposure, how an industrial hygienist would evaluate a workplace for heat related issues, and some of the signs and symptoms of heat related illness.
Class 3
Health and Safety Hazard Recognition 12:30pm - 3:30pm
This course provides basic procedures to identify potential health and safety hazards for those persons responsible for safety and health in the workplace that lack expertise in the industrial hygiene and occupational safety field. Topics of discussion include how to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health and safety hazards in the workplace; types of health and safety hazards common to the workplace; and an overview of hazard monitoring methodology and hierarchy of controls used to determine practical and appropriate ways to eliminate or reduce the likelihood or severity of hazards in the workplace.
